So we’re the not quite yet fifty somethings (great, still in our 40’s then!) who’ve had a life long love affair with all things related in one form or another to campervans, motorhomes, dormobiles (yes some people do call them that and ask if we have one!) and the most recently known phenomenon known affectionately as vanlife. So are we exaggerating our affiliation to what is, in our opinion, just the best form of travel and accommodation on the planet? To find out here’s our brief fact filled bio to keep you in the frame on us and our love of vanlife.
Married, yes to each other! For a very long time too and after raising two amazingly talented male offspring, we are now free and happy to embark on new adventures, across various parts the globe on 4 wheels. More precisely a 4×4 Sprinter, which has been our mode of van for the past few years.
Now not to be greedy, but that van is in the UK (our Welsh base), but we do also have a self-build campervan in New Zealand! That’s not just flash, it’s because our beloved son lives down there and we do like to visit in style, he also quite likes to keep the driver seat warm when we’re not there!
Work, yes we’ve done lots of that and you’ve guessed it, it involved campervans, or more recently a motorhome hire business started back in 2008 and now safely relegated to the ‘that’s what we used to do’ banner, so we can now enjoy more of our own tales of travel, rather than other people’s!
On that note, you can probably guess that we’ve owned a few vans, that’s 4 of our own, personnel use only (we never recommend to hire out your own, more of that another time) and owned plenty of others for hiring.
Forgot to mention the camperstop too, a little spot where weary owners could park up for the night, a nice little service we used to offer at our motorhome hire base, knowing first hand what a forgotten bunch we are in Great Britain.
Before the van travel love affair took hold, we owned touring caravans (arghh….we hear your pain)! In fact, buying our first one at 18 years old and having to sell it soon afterwards to buy a washing machine, yes, times were tough back in those teenage years.
Between the various outfits we’ve travelled far and wide covering hundred’s of thousands of miles, amazingly surreal and beautiful places, incredible cultures and fantastic memories.
Here’s a sneaky snapshot of memorable encounters from some of our favourite countries…
There’s plenty of the planet left to see but even if we live another 30 years somehow we feel time is already running out, so hurry up and let’s finish writing this so we can get on with the journey!
Ok, do we get bored? No!!
I love dabbling with writing this blog site and occasionally I will even write an article for a UK motorhome magazine, Practical Motorhome!
So now we’re sticking two fingers up to the conventional expectations of a modern society. Life, as we know, is no rehearsal, so we’re jumping off the merry go round, living life as we want to live it, in the way we want and enjoying the life together that we have.
No rules, no plans, no expectations, just raw life, we’re grabbing it and not letting go! We hope you join us on the journey and follow your own dreams, live, love and share the road together!
